It's Been a While..

I know it's been a while...  such is the nature of my job.

On the workbench: Retribution of Scyrah Hydra Heavy Myrmidon

I've always hated how static the Retribution Warjacks insist on being so I took some liberties in creating a more dynamic pose for this Hydra.  I considered magnetizing it but I have no magnets with me and waiting a number of weeks for some isn't practical.  Of course it's pretty rough right now and in addition to not having any magnets I also forgot to bring any gap filling materials.  Doh.  The next step is figuring a way to make those  gigantic shoulderpads fit.  Bastards are so fussy it hurts my feelings..

Hopefully this guy will have at least a rough coat of paint by tomorrow.  I'll post pics as I make progress on this bad boy.

Deployment 101: The Refused Flank

Today I want to examine a deployment tactic referred to as the Refused Flank or Oblique Order.  In part one, we’ll examine criteria for proper implementation and execution of this particular strategy and highlight a general wargamers list of pros and cons for the method.  In part two, the plan is to open discussion over possible ways to recover if your flank has been blunted by your opponent (sans crying, throwing dice, and flipping tables).

Let it be known that I’ve had both great luck and great heartburn with this tactic.  When performed properly a player can create for himself an unstoppable brick of hate that is capable of cutting entire swathes out of an opposing army very quickly.  On the other side of this coin lies the potential for ultrafail where a perfect storm of shit can force someone putting this strategy into practice to actually play into his opponent’s hands and put up little fight while watching his force get dissected piece by piece.

Dichotomy of RaW vs. RaI

I understand that there have been hundreds of millions of people kicking and screaming, forum posts, blog soapboxing and the like about what is referred to as Rules as Written (RAW) vs. Rules as Intended (RAI).

This is my soapbox, damnit, and I’ll touch what topics fancy my super classy wine and cheese loving palette.

Compulsory Introductory Message to the Masses

So I caved.

I've been steadfast over the past few years in that I've simply refused to get into the Blogging scene; however, here I sit in the middle of nowhere-Southeast Asia looking for something to do with my free time.  At last, I decided to take the plunge.

Lucky you.

So my plan for this Blog is a loose one.  I fully intend on making commentary on Warhammer 40,000 and Warmachine/Hordes as those are the two game systems I've come to love over the past couple of years.  Within those game systems I own multiple armies and have played within competitive atmospheres across a decently large swathe of the US.  Additionally, my intent is to share what opinions I hold over hobbying in general to include: Painting, assembly and modifications to minis, battle reports, unit-specific studies and whatever else I fancy publishing to the interwebs.

Anyway, that's all for now, look forward to my first piece highlighting... something...  shrug.
